Lime Tree Theatre presents their Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival inaugural programme

in Limerick this October

The Lime Tree Theatre welcomed invited guests to the launch of their very first Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival programme. Guests included Minister for Education & Skills Jan O’Sullivan and the President of Mary Immaculate College, Professor Michael Hayes.

Professor Michael Hayes, President of Mary Immaculate College noted “Mary Immaculate College is delighted to welcome Minister Jan O’Sullivan to the College on her first visit as Minister for Education and Skills. It is most fitting that her visit is to launch the Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival programme. I wish the festival every success.”

Louise Donlon, Manager of the Lime Tree Theatre, said that “The Lime Tree Theatre wishes to make children’s programming a priority and this inaugural Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival is a manifestation of that. Our place within a centre of excellence for the education of primary school teachers will highlight the importance of access and participation in the arts for our younger citizens to a new generation of teachers and community leaders.ˇ

The first Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival will capture the imagination of young audiences with magical theatre, raucous book readings, chatty talks, interactive workshops plus a host of other activities for the rest of the family too. For the entire month of October 2014 the Lime Tree Theatre and 69 O’Connell Street will be buzzing with active, curious and spellbound minds.

Theatre companies and writers will travel from Australia, USA, France, Italy and the UK to perform various shows in Limerick. Irish company Branar do Pháisti will present their new show The Way Back Home, which premiered this summer at the Galway International Arts Festival. Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Company will amaze audiences with their special interpretation of The Elves and the Shoemaker. Limerick company Beyond The Bark has a new show SPUN which is based on a book by Emma Fisher, this visually stimulating show will attract a very young audience and the Kidding Ensemble Theatre Company’s show Sweet Hands and Spicy Feet is a thirty minute show suitable for 3 – 18mths.

Along with performances catering for younger age groups, Fibin will present Othello and An Tráil for Leaving Certificate students. For the 8+ year olds, the Australian company Slingsby will present Cheeseboy; a show about a boy made of cheese coming to Earth for the first time. Morning performances will cater for schools but we also have early evening shows for families.

Voracious readers and future authors will have chance to meet and learn from some of the country’s best writers. Judi Curtin will talk about her inspiration and adventures in the world of storytelling and publishing. Darren Shan is back to read some of the especially grisly passages from his books. Celine Kiernan, Andy Stanton, Sarah Moore Fitzgerald, Sarah Webb and Oisin McGann will host various events for 8 – 15 year olds. For juniors we have short story telling sessions throughout the festival along with hop-scotch, face painting, dressing up and some make and do.

The Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival programme will fire up the creativity of every child that attends. Take them through the theatre doors and into a world of pure imagination.

More events will be announced at our festival launch on Monday, 15th September at the Lime Tree. Guests are invited to attend a short performance by Branar which starts at 11am sharp.

The Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival is funded by Bord Gáis Networks and the Limerick City of Culture 2014.
