The primary school, based in Caherconlish, County Limerick, plans to build a new recreational space on a pre-existing playing pitch in front of the school grounds.

The new facility would be a great asset to the school, increasing yard space during break and lunch, providing a safe and enclosed playing area for the school’s pupils, and allowing the school to have after-school activities on the grounds.

The school recently received €50,000 from a Government Sports Capital Grant to develop the new facility. While the grant is a significant aid, it is not enough to carry the full work involved in building a recreational facility.

“While it is fantastic that we have acquired this funding and we are extremely grateful to the Department of Sports, unfortunately, it is not enough to develop the sports grounds,” said school principal Gearoid Power.

They are having the Caherline National School fundraiser as it is estimated that an additional €50,000 will be needed to construct the recreational facility.

Once this new recreational space has been built, it will be available to clubs and organisations within the Caherconlish community at no extra cost – allowing them to train there and facilitate matches.

The first Caherline national school fundraiser event, a sponsored walk, will take place in Caherconlish on Saturday, April 2. Once completed, a bake sale will be held in the village’s ‘Old School’ Community Centre at 11 a.m. All are welcome to pop by for treats and refreshments.

Caherline National School has created a GoFundMe page, which will work alongside fundraising events to garner the sum needed to complete the work.

“We are extremely grateful to all who will support us with the Caherline national school fundraiser. This facility will be a wonderful asset to the school and Caherconlish community for many generations to come,” commented Principal Power.
