Caleb O Loughlin is just over a year old and has scoliosis. He will need surgery every six months over the course of the next few years where he will be put in a plaster cast which will slow down his development and then be given spinal rods to help keep his spine straight.

Caleb is also being investigated for Tethered Cord Syndrome, which is a neurologic disorder caused by tissue attachments that limit the movement of the spinal cord in the spinal column, and Spina Bifida Occulta, which results in a small gap in the spine but no opening or sac on the back.

He also has developmental delays and red flags for autism.

“Caleb is on lengthy waiting lists for all treatment and tests. He can’t stand unsupported or walk. Caleb can’t communicate at all. Caleb is in pain every day. We have used all our savings to get him this far. Caleb’s bowel doesn’t work and he is on a waiting list to see a specialist,” Caleb’s father Joseph explained on GoFundMe.

As a result of the long public waiting lists, Caleb’s parents have had to go private for his appointments, which can be very costly.

“Caleb needs multiple assessments going forward as well as intervention. Again, these all have to be paid privately. We are doing our best, but it’s becoming impossible as the appointments are all adding up as well as treatments and he also needs a new buggy one that will support his spine. He is allergic to dairy and his diet is very expensive. I appreciate any support at all. Caleb needs serious intervention and care,” Joseph said.

So far, almost €1,000 out of a €3,000 goal has been raised for the young boy, and all donations are greatly appreciated by the family.
