Carambola, Ireland’s longest-established school meals provider, is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year. What started as a small but impactful pilot project in Limerick, has grown to serve over 150,000 meals weekly to schools across the nation.

Founded by Colm and Aideen O’Brien, Carambola has been at the forefront of revolutionising the school meals industry in Ireland, becoming a trusted partner to schools, parents, and government agencies.

“Celebrating 21 years of Carambola is a moment of immense pride for us,” said Colm O’Brien, Co-founder of Carambola. “Our mission has always been to ensure that children have access to nutritious meals that support their growth, learning, and overall wellbeing. We’re thrilled to have reached this significant milestone, and we look forward to continuing to make a difference in the lives of students across Ireland.”

The company was a key partner in the early development of the Hot School Meals Project, working closely with the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP) to shape the programme’s success. Over the past two decades, Carambola has delivered over 65 million meals. Despite their growth, Carambola remains a family-run business at heart. “Our success is built on our strong values of quality, service, and innovation,” added Aideen O’Brien, Co-founder. “The team treats every meal with the care and attention they’d want for their own children.”

As the company embarks on the next chapter, the company remains committed to expanding its services and continuously improving the quality of its meals. With a focus on sustainability, innovation, and keeping children’s well-being at the forefront, the school meals provider is set to continue making a positive difference in the years to come.
