Carer’s Association Graduates
The Carer’s Association presented 20 Homecare Respite Workers with their certificates for a Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare. The certificates were presented by Councillor and former Mayor of Limerick, Gerry Mc Loughlin, Anne Jacob, Learning and Development Officer and Collette Devlin, Regional Manager with the Carer’s Association. These graduates are among the members of the Carer’s Association Midwest team who provide care and assistance to voluntary family Carers of who are among 16,500 in the Midwest region alone.
These family carers are invisible heroes who care for loved-ones everyday in the home. These fantastic individuals care for people who are elderly and frail, chronically or terminally ill, as well as people with intellectual and physical disabilities, and children with special needs. Caring for a loved-one at home can be a deep source of comfort in a tough situation, but many Carers in high-dependency and long-term caring roles suffer isolation and depression, poor physical health and even poverty.
The Carer’s Association itself helps with advice and information for the carer’s and their families. They also provide essential care-in-the-home training, an in-home respite service to give Carers a badly needed break, health & information evenings and advocacy to make sure that family Carers in Ireland have the decent quality of life they deserve.
These services are funded through the Midwest H.S.E. If you would like to speak to a Family Support Officer call 061-310434. Details of our services can be learned at www.carersireland.com or you can speak confidentially to our Careline team on free phone 1800-24-07-24.
