Casey’s Centra Mount Kenneth and Casey’s Centra Dock Road, have teamed up with the Mid West Simon Community to support the homeless. The management from both Casey’s Centra stores located on the Dock Road have taken it upon themselves to donate left over foods to the Mid West Simon Community.
Duncan Casey, Munster rugby player and Mid West Simon Community Ambassador, said, “Mid West Simon Community reaches out to people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or experiencing housing difficulties. They work with people in the spirit of cooperation and community to provide appropriate quality standards in our care and support and in housing provision and they campaign for legislative and policy changes in their vision to end homelessness.”
Jackie Bonfield, General Manager Mid West Simon Midwest Community, explained that “throughout the Midwest we have beneficiaries in the region of 1,400 people, this isn’t necessarily 1,400 individuals but it could be a mother coming to us who needs to feed a family of four”.
“In Limerick at the moment we have about 150 people taking food out of here every week,” continued Jackie, “We are a food bank that supplement as a weekly shop so that people can spend the money they would have used on food to pay ESB bills, rent, their mortgage or other necessities that they could not have afforded as well as food based on their income”.

Jackie and the volunteers at the Mid West Simon Community are delighted that with the decision that Caseys Centra support Mid West Simon Community . “Casey’s Centra choosing to donate food does help so much, we always need new foods and fresh foods, we want to make sure that the food we distribute is of good quality and nutritional value”, Jackie added.
Pauline Reilly, Food Manager of Casey’s Centra, explained that they wanted to get involved as “Casey’s is a family store and a community store so we want to give back to the community, the Mid West Simon Community is right across the road from us, it is on our doorstep so it made sense to us to choose to help our good neighbours in whatever way we could. It feels good that we can pass that love on to those who want it but more importantly need it”, added Pauline.
Kevin Foley, General Manager of Casey’s Centra Mount Kenneth, said that, “when we first opened we did notice that the Mid West Simon Community was very close to us geographically, so we wanted to form a close relationship with them.
The staff have reacted very positively to it, taking on board on that we are doing something good for the community. I would encourage other businesses to take on our policy and get involved”.
The homeless crisis continues and demand for the services provided by the Mid West Simon Community increase daily. A donation today, will help the Mid West Simon Community to support more children, families and adults with life changing assistance.
