Castletroy College Senior Citizens Afternoon Tea for PIFL Kindness Week
The Castletroy College Senior Citizens Afternoon Tea was supported by Limerick Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Marian Hurley and her granddaughter Mollie. The afternoon consisted of a tea and delicious treats along with some lovely entertainment.
Castletroy College Senior Citizens Afternoon Tea for PIFL Kindness Week
Cllr. Marian Hurley, Deputy Mayor of the City and County of Limerick and her Granddaughter Mollie supported Castletroy College Senior Citizens Afternoon Tea for on Friday 9 March. Cllr. Hurley said she absolutely “loved it and the hospitality was second to none from the inspirational PIFL Student Leaders” at Castletroy College.
The 5th Year PIFL Student Leaders hosted the event to mark the beginning of Pay It Forward Limerick’s Festival of Kindness which runs from March 10-17. Siobhan Everard from the PIFL Committee said she was delighted to be part of the Castletroy College Senior Citizens Afternoon Tea which highlighted the great work being done by the students of Castletroy College to promote kindness in their community. Grandparents of First Year students along with Senior Citizens from the Milford Day Centre were invited. In addition to the entertainment provided by the school’s traditional music group and Irish dancers, the guests were treated to a tempting Afternoon Tea featuring a delicious array of freshly baked miniature cakes, pastries, and breads, smoked salmon and cream cheese as well as dainty finger sandwiches, and home-baked scones served with clotted cream all prepared by the Home Economic Teachers Ms Máire Hanley and Ms Miriam Lynch.

MC for the afternoon was the talented Ms Veronica Callinan who had the audience enthralled with her rendition of “Caledonia” and “Bright blue rose”.
Chrissie Bourke from Castletroy had never attended an event in her Granddaughter Caoimhe’s school before and was thrilled with the entire afternoon. “The food and music were wonderful”.
Tom and Mary Chawke from Monaleen, Grandparents of James Kemmy had a “very enjoyable afternoon” and were delighted they attended.

Ellen Regan Magner, a 5th Year PIFL Student Leader said “When Ms Murphy first mentioned Pay It Forward Limerick during religion class in September I was interested immediately and wanted to be a PIFL leader. I had never heard or seen something like this being done in our school. Now a senior student, I look back on my previous years in the school and would only have been delighted if Pay It Forward was around during my junior years and I had the opportunity to experience Be Kind, Live Kindly & Share Kindness a lot more”.
“Sometimes in school, we can become very concerned with exams and the points for third level education and we can forget about the things in life which can matter the most. When we talk about Pay It Forward we are describing a very simple idea- somebody does something for you and in return, you help somebody else. Instead of paying back the kindness you are Paying It Forward said” commented Caoimhe O Driscoll, another PIFL Student Leader at the school.
All the PIFL Student leaders in Castletroy College consider themselves very fortunate that we had a hand in spreading a wave of kindness in our school community this year which has had a ripple effect in all year groups said Brian O’Donnell, PIFL Student Leader.
