Limerick‘s Cathal O’Neill has been announced as the GAA.ie Hurler of the Week following a public vote through the GAA Instagram.

The Crecora/Manister forward received 3,287 votes on the GAA’s Official Instagram page, adding to his Man of the Match award he claimed in the All-Ireland Final on Sunday, July 19.

O’Neill’s 3,287 votes put him ahead of team-mates Cian Lynch (3,145) and Aaron Gillane (1,842) in the polling.

Cathal O’Neill produced an all-action display for Limerick on Sunday. He won a huge amount of possession, stretched the Galway defence time and again with his direct running, and was the game’s top-scorer with a tally of 1-4.

O’Neill’s goal helped the Treaty Men pull away from the Tribesmen in the second half, and speaking with RTÉ Sport on Sunday evening, Cathal said it was “unreal to have” the man of the match award as well as the Liam McCarthy Cup, bringing the trophy back to Limerick for the first time in three years.

Following his All-Ireland performance, Crecora Manister GAA Club said, “Cathal is a brilliant example of what can be achieved through perseverance, humility and a willingness to keep improving every day. He is an inspiration to the next generation of players in our club, showing what is possible through dedication to your team, your club and your goals.
