The Cathaoirligh, or Chairs of Limerick’s Municipal and Metropolitan Districts have been elected at their respective Annual General Meetings.
A Cathaoirleach serves for a one-year term and presides over local council meetings, ensuring orderly proceedings and facilitating discussions.
Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon (FF) will hold the position in the Municipal District of Limerick (comprising of Limerick City North, Limerick City West and Limerick City East) for the next twelve months, after being elected today (Friday, 28 June).
Councillor Fergus Kilcoyne (FF) was elected Leas Cathaoirleach (deputy chair) at the first Municipal District of Limerick meeting since the local elections on 07 June.
At the Adare-Rathkeale Municipal District AGM this week, Councillor Adam Teskey (FG) was elected Cathaoirleach and Councillor Stephen Keary (FG) was elected Leas Cathaoirleach.
Councillor Liam Galvin (FG) was elected Cathaoirleach of the Newcastle West Municipal District and John Sheahan (FG) was elected Leas Cathaoirleach.

In Cappamore-Kilmallock, Councillor Martin Ryan (FF) will chair the meetings as Cathaoirleach for the next 12 months, while Councillor Greg Conway (FG) is the new Leas Cathaoirleach.
On Friday 21 June the new Mayor of Limerick, John Moran was vested with the chain of office at an inauguration ceremony in St Mary’s Cathedral, marking the beginning of a five year term and a new era of local government in Limerick.
Mayor Moran is the first to be directly elected to the office by the people of Limerick. He is an elected representative who also has control over executive functions on the council, a first in Ireland.
