Former RTÉ Mid West Correspondent, Cathy Halloran, has taken on a new role in academics following her retirement from her RTÉ role earlier this year.
The experienced journalist joins the Journalism at UL lecturing team which oversees the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in journalism and digital communication.
The Journalism at UL department made the announcement with an Instagram post, saying they were “thrilled” to have the former RTÉ Mid West correspondent as one of its talented lecturing team.
They said, “Exciting news! We’re thrilled to welcome Cathy Halloran, renowned broadcaster, to teach in University of Limerick journalism department.
“With decades of experience at RTE and regional media, Cathy’s dedication, expertise, and passion for storytelling make her an incredible addition to our team. Her insights and hands-on experience will offer students a unique chance to learn from one of the best in the industry.”
Extending her congratulations on the appointment, Limerick City North Councillor, Olivia O’Sullivan, said, “Great to see Cathy passing on her experience to our future journalists.”
In April 2025, following 38 years in journalism, Cathy Halloran announced her retirement, closing the door on a stellar career where the veteran journalist became known for her compassionate reporting and a familiar face for Limerick, the region, and the nation for 38 years, with 31 of those years covering the Mid West.
