Limerick shortlisted for four Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards

Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards

Team Limerick Clean-Up, Innovate Limerick, Implementation of Customer Services Centres and HAP Shared Services Centre are all up for awards.

Limerick City and County Council has been shortlisted in four categories for this year’s Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards.

Team Limerick Clean Up is hoping to sweep away the competition in the Supporting Active Communities category.

Innovate Limerick is in the running in the Promoting Economic Development section, while HAP Shared Services Centre is hoping its unique work dealing with councils from across the country will pay off in the Local Authority Innovation category.

The Implementation of Customer Services Centres across Limerick City and County Council has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Customer Service category.

Limerick has been successful in the awards in previous years winning seven awards since the inaugural event in 2004.

The Excellence in Local Government Awards showcase best practice in local government and recognise the skills, hard work, innovation and enthusiasm within local government that can often go unrecognised.  The Awards are judged by a panel of expert judges working in the field of Local Government and are now in their 13th year.

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon said: “Congratulations and well done must be given to the staff of Limerick City and County Council.  They work very hard in providing the best services possible to the people of Limerick, and are committed to improving their services.  Their hard work is being recognising by Chambers Ireland and the very best of luck at the awards ceremony on Thursday (24 November 2016).

Conn Murray, Chief Executive of Limerick City and County Council said: “There have been huge changes in Limerick over the past number of years, and the local authority is no different.  We have merged the two councils and created new directorates to deliver services to the citizens of Limerick in the most efficient way possible.  Limerick City and County Council is one of the most progressive in the country and this is borne out by the four sections shortlisted for awards.  There is a credit due to all involved as they work very hard to deliver for the people of Limerick, and now their efforts have been recognised by Chambers Ireland.”
