Charity Cycle Limerick to Ballybunion 2019 in Aid of Milford Hospice

The fifth Charity Cycle Limerick to Ballybunion 2019 is set to take place this July and hopes to exceed the successes of the previous cycles. The Charity Cycle Limerick to Ballybunion 2019 aims to raise vital funds for Milford Hospice.

There has been approximately €60k raised in the last 4 years for a number of charities. This year everyone is urged to get involved again as it’s the people involved who make this charity cycle such a great annual event. Milford Hospice was this year’s chosen charity as this is a charity that hits home to the majority of us each day and the work they do to help families is over and above the call of duty.

Louise Collins, Care Co-Ordinator – Bluebird Care Limerick, organised the charity cycle in previous years. Louise said, “Milford Care Centre is not just a Hospice Inpatient Unit, they provide multiple services to our community. These include Hospice at Home services, a Nursing Home, Day Care for both the older person and people with palliative care needs. They also offer Bereavement Support for families. Their staff work in conjunction with other health care professionals in the community.” The staff and teams, for this year’s charity, work day and night to help, support and improve the lives of the people of Limerick.

The theme for this year’s cycle is “Favourite Celebrity” i.e favourite singer, dancer, actor, actress, soccer/rugby player etc. This is a great way to have some fun playing dress up.

Louise continues, “As this event has been growing and growing, thanks to the support from the Limerick people, we have arranged for 6 Marshals, The Red Cross Ambulance service and also a forum from Ballybunion to help us on the day. The cycling hub Limerick will also be taking part in this year’s cycle.”

Vincent O’Brien will be looking after the registration for all cyclists this year. All cyclists are required to pay €5 to register for this year’s cycle to cover insurance. Anyone that does not register will not be allowed to take part in the cycle. Anyone that is already registered with cycle Ireland does not have to pay this fee as you are already covered. All cyclists also need to take a sponsor card as the aim is to raise as many funds as possible for Milford Hospice. Dessie Meehan will be looking after these cards.

Cyclists are encouraged to put a plan in place to get their bikes returned to Limerick that day or the next day. For anyone planning on staying overnight, there is a list of B&B’s below you can contact. There will be spot prizes, music and food on the day. JD’s bar in Ballybunion will host the after party which is a great day and night for all. If anyone would like to donate a spot prize you can contact Louise on 086 7900 724. Louise said, “If anyone outside of the cyclist would like to join on the day please feel free to spread the word as all support is greatly appreciated.”

Ballybunion B&B’s include, Cashen Course House: 068 27351, 19th Golf Lodge: 068 27592, Seashore B&B: 068 27986 and The Tides B&B: 06827980 etc.

It is in the best interest of all cyclists to take the advice that is given on board as the plan is to have no casualties or accidents on the day. Photos for the local paper and local limerick social media sites will also be taken. Louise concluded, “It’s a fun day out, not a race so let’s all enjoy the day and stay safe.” To register contact Vincent on 086 8866 323 and to get a sponsor card contact Dessie on 087 226 7078.
