Before returning to Limerick, the All-Ireland-winning Senior Hurling team paid a special visit to young patients at CHI Crumlin with the Liam MacCarthy Cup

All-Ireland champions, Limerick, paid a visit to young patients at Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) Crumlin before returning to Limerick City for their homecoming celebrations.

Fresh from their All-Ireland success, the Limerick Senior Hurling Team swapped the celebrations for smiles today as they brought the Liam MacCarthy Cup to Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

Thanks to Children’s Health Foundation, the players and management spent time meeting children and their families on the wards, posing for photos, signing jerseys and hurleys, and sharing their championship-winning memories.

For many young patients who are unable to attend sporting occasions, these visits create unforgettable moments and a welcome distraction.

The special visit was organised with Children’s Health Foundation, whose supporters help fund ground-breaking research, services and therapeutic supports that bring comfort, play and joy to sick children.

Speaking at the visit, Limerick Hurler William O’Donoghue spoke about how special visits like this are for the team.

He said, “When I was asked yesterday to come here, I was just incredibly grateful to be able to come and visit the kids. It gives fantastic perspective on the challenges that these kids are facing, and I think it puts sport very much in a secondary position when you see what some of these kids are going through.

“Hopefully today, if we can bring a bit of joy and happiness to them, then fantastic because there are bigger things in Ireland, and this is certainly one of them.”

Following the visit, Children’s Health Foundation shared, “For children spending the summer in hospital, moments like these bring smiles, lift spirits and create memories that last long after the final whistle.

“Thank you to the Limerick team for making the morning so special, and congratulations again on your fantastic All-Ireland win!”
