St Mary’s Cathedral Limerick to welcome Choir of Kings College Cambridge

On Monday, July 16 at 7.30pm, the Choir of King’s College Cambridge will be performing in Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick.Choir of Kings College Cambridge

The Cathedral is delighted and privileged to welcome the world-famous Choir of King’s College Cambridge to Limerick. They will be performing in St Mary’s as part of the year-long celebrations of the 850th anniversary of the foundation of the cathedral. This concert is the highlight of the venue’s musical programme in this special year.

The Choir of King’s College, Cambridge is especially known to millions worldwide through its annual broadcast of a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. The Choir’s international fame and reputation, enhanced by an extensive recording catalogue, has led to invitations to perform around the world.

Saint Mary’s which was gifted to the Church by Donal Mór O’Brien, the last King of Thomond has been a site of Christian worship since 1168 and it one of the oldest buildings in Limerick City. The choir visit forms part of this year’s festivities which are celebrating and promoting the Cathedral within Limerick and beyond.

Speaking of the concert, the Dean, the Very Rev’d Niall J. Sloane says ‘Saint Mary’s is privileged and honoured to welcome the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge to the Cathedral. This is possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear the choir in Limerick and we are delighted that they will be a part of our celebrations in 2018’.
