Technological University of the Shannon marked a major celebration recently as many students gathered to receive their academic awards and honours across numerous undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. These belong to the faculties of Art & Design, Applied Sciences & Technology, Engineering & Built Environment and Business & Humanities.
Many students were present along with parents, guardians, relations, partners, and friends to celebrate a proud day and to mark a milestone in life. Speaking at the TUS Conferring Conference 2022, TUS President Vincent Cunnane congratulated all students saying, “I would like to extend a warm welcome to the 2022 graduating class of Technological University of the Shannon. You, students, are distinguished by the fact that, as a cohort, you faced challenges during the pandemic which were unknown until their emergence. Your graduation is a mark of both your achievements and your resilience.”
One student, in particular, was extremely honoured after winning a prestigious college award. Cian Guerin is a current graduate student of BSc (Hons) in Social Care Work at TUS. At the TUS Conferring Ceremonies, Cian not only received his first-class honours degree. He also received a prestigious award which is that of the Brothers of Charity Excellence Award 2022. This award is in recognition of Cian’s outstanding academic achievements having received the highest grade across all TUS campuses in his chosen area of study which is Social Care Studies.
After receiving the award, Cian Guerin thanked his family, friends, and academic staff for helping him throughout his academic journey so far. When asked for a response after receiving his award, Cian wanted to give advice to current and prospective students. Cian said, “Live for yourself and walk the path others may be afraid to walk. Find a career path you truly enjoy and you will never work a day in your life.”
Cian’s family are extremely proud to see him achieve such heights and is excited for all the success yet to come. Cian is a student born and raised in Moyross, Limerick and this close community will be extremely proud to see one of its own receive such remarkable academic success.
