Cian Lynch gives positive fitness update ahead of All-Ireland Final

Lynch captained Limerick to the Munster Hurling Championship win this year.

Cian Lynch has given an update on his fitness, which every Limerick fan was hoping to hear following Limerick’s win over Clare in the All-Ireland semi-final.

The Limerick senior hurling captain was sidelined at the beginning of the match, dropped to the bench following a leg injury picked up in training in the build-up to the semi-final clash.

Speaking with the media at the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final media event in Woodlands House Hotel, Adare, Lynch said he was feeling great and is hopefully back for the coming two weeks.The captain said he was delighted to contribute to the game against Clare, which looked like it was falling out of Limerick’s reach. He noted that every member of the panel has a role to play in the championship, and others also stepped up when needed.

Limerick held The Banner to just 1-3 in the second half, with Lynch making an appearance off the bench in the 57th minute with the Clare leading 1-19 to 16 points. 

Limerick drove on to overturn the deficit with Lynch making some exceptional catches, winning frees, and helping the team in their push for the All-Ireland final spot.

The GAA also confirmed that Colm Lyons from Cork will be the referee for the 2026 GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship Final, in what will be Colm’s second Senior Final.

Colm is a member of the Nemo Rangers GAA Club and has also refereed the 2022 All-Ireland final between Limerick and Kilkenny, the All-Ireland Minor Final in 2012, the National Hurling League Final in 2017, the Leinster Hurling Final in 2017, the Munster Hurling Final in 2024 and the All-Ireland Senior Club final in 2018 & 2020.

In this year’s Hurling Championship, Colm has refereed Limerick vs Tipperary in the Munster Championship, as well as Galway vs Dublin and Galway vs Kilkenny in the Leinster Championship.

They now look forward to a meeting with Galway in Croke Park on Sunday, July 19, with a 3:30 pm throw-in for the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship.
