19 people are moving into 10 newly developed apartments in Limerick City, with Mid West Simon Community welcoming the residents to Clann Nua Apartments, a model of housing in Limerick City.

The new Clann Nua residents are being housed directly from emergency accommodation (EA) services in Limerick, marking a significant step forward in addressing homelessness and supporting long-term housing stability in the region.

Developed in partnership with Limerick City and County Council, this project delivers modern, high-quality homes that provide safe, secure, and sustainable accommodation for individuals transitioning from homelessness into independent living.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, said it is a “deeply positive step forward” for the new residents.

He said, “While this is a deeply positive step forward for the 19 individuals who now have a place to call home, we must acknowledge the broader reality. The scale of the housing crisis in Ireland, and here in Limerick, is staggering, and the human cost is profound.

That said, every additional housing unit is welcome. Each home built and each person moved out of emergency accommodation is a step toward restoring dignity and stability. These 10 homes represent hope, and they remind us of what is possible when local authorities, housing charities, and communities work together.”

Niall Garvey, CEO of Mid West Simon Community, said, “The negative effects of living long term in emergency accommodation are well researched and documented. Therefore, these apartments are a wonderful addition to our services – we can now offer this supported transition for our clients.”

This latest development underscores Mid West Simon Community’s ongoing commitment to delivering person-centred, permanent housing solutions that respond to local needs and support people on their journey out of homelessness.
