Classical series conclude in Limerick this month

Two classical series conclude in Limerick this November, both the 2015 Autumn Lunchtime Concert Series and the 10th annual Castleconnell Autumn Concerts Series.  Performances from The Zaïde Quartet, The Esposito Quartet, Stuart O’Sullivan and Péter Sebestyén have drawn huge attendances to All Saint’s Church in Castleconnell in recent weeks.

The final concert in the Series takes place on Tuesday, 17th November, at 8pm. Soprano Sylvia O’Brien, cellist Christopher Marwood and pianist Michael McHale will come together in an unusual combination to perform ‘A Romantic Voice’. The programme will include works for soprano, cello and piano by Messiaen, Berlioz, deFalla, Andre Previn; Fauré’s Cello Sonata in D minor Op.109 and solo piano works by Phillip Hammond and Schubert.​

Sylvia O’Brien has gained Europe wide success in opera, oratorio and as soloist with orchestras in a wide range of repertoire. Christopher Marwood, cellist of the Vanbrugh Quartet, has performed the major concerti and given recitals around the UK and Ireland. Belfast-born Michael McHale has given debut recitals in the NCH, London’s Wigmore Hall and in Washington DC as well as soloing with a number of major orchestras.

The Castleconnell 2015 Autumn Concerts Series programme is coordinated by the Arts Office of Limerick City & County Council and Castleconnell Concert Committee member Pat Burke. The upcoming concert is supported by an Arts Council Touring Award, Limerick Arts Office, Limerick City and County Council and Limerick 2020. Meanwhile, the RTÉ ConTempo Quartet, in association with the Limerick Arts Office and The Granary Library, will perform the third and final concert of the 2015 Autumn Lunchtime Concert Series at the Granary on Friday, 27th November, at 1pm. 

Entitled “20/20 EXPERIENCE”, the free concert will feature the music of Mozart (Quartet no 21 in D major, KV 575, “Prussian” and Schumann (Quartet no 3 in A major, Op 41).

Mike Maguire, Executive Librarian at the Granary Library said: “Do not miss the RTÉ ConTempo Quartet later this month. The concert in October, the timing, the interplay of the musicians, the sheer energy of the playing – lifting themselves out of their seats at times – brought a stunned audience to its feet.”

The RTÉ ConTempo Quartet will begin their spring programme to Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA) in January in partnership with Limerick Arts Office, Limerick City and County Council.

Úna McCarthy, Director/Curator, Limerick City Gallery of Art stated: “The LCGA is delighted to welcome the Con Tempo Quartet to continue their concerts in the New Year.  The virtuoso playing of the Quartet and the wonderful programme should ensure that Thursday evenings at the Gallery will be the perfect antidote to the post Christmas blues.”
