Music to Cliona’s ears from the Glen Tavern

With pubs and live music venues closed, musicians have been missing the buzz of live performance and interacting with the audiences. People were looking online for their weekend entertainment.

The Glen Tavern has a reputation for great live music and saw the opportunity to link in with musicians who would normally gig in their venue at the weekends and give them the platform to still perform virtually for their customers.

“It has been a tough few months for everyone,” said Cathal Callanan of the Glen Tavern, “and in particular for the musicians that we would have playing here every weekend. We thought why not ask them to gig live online, give everyone a lift, and also raise funds for Cliona’s Foundation. We know that charities are also struggling and we really admire the work that Cliona’s do and the support they provide to families of seriously sick children.”

They had a fantastic response from all the artists who were delighted to be able to gig live albeit in a different format. ‘The Glen Goes Live’ took place live on Facebook and Instagram with performances from eight different musicians and two groups, on the May and June bank holiday weekends. The location of the gigs ranged from back gardens to backrooms to back sheds with everyone donating their time and talent.

“It was just fantastic,” said Brendan Ring, Co-founder of Cliona’s Foundation. The quality of the performers was outstanding and it was a super 3 nights /16 hours of entertainment without moving outside our front door.  We really appreciate the huge effort put in by Ger, Cathal, and all the team in the Glen Tavern but also the time given by all the musicians. The generosity of the public resulted in €3,800 being raised which is a real boost to us in the current environment when a lot of fundraising activities have been cancelled”
