Are you an active woman who loves to run? Cliona’s Foundation is looking for women like you to help raise some much-needed funds for the families of children with a life-limiting condition by running with their Blue Crew in the annual Cook Women’s Mini Marathon 2020 this September.

Cliona’s Foundation is a Limerick-based charity that provides financial assistance directly to parents of children with life-limiting or chronic complex care needs across Ireland to help with the non-medical expenses related to caring for their child. Since the foundation launched in 2006, Cliona’s Foundation has raised more than €1.7 million and has helped more than 700 families across 31 Counties.

The Cook Medical Limerick Women’s Mini Marathon, Now in its 22nd year, is firmly established as the premier women’s running event in Limerick and the Midwest. Over 3000 women of all ages and abilities participate in this event every year, running alone, with a group or even some pushing their children in buggies to help raise funds for their chosen charities.

Due to Covid-19, the Cook Women’s Mini Marathon is going Virtual on the weekend of the 26th & 27th of September. You can register to do the 5 or 10km and complete it over the weekend in your chosen location on your own, with family, friends, or colleagues.

The registration fee is €15 and the registration money earned will be going to twelve of the selected Charities and this year Cliona’s Foundation is one of these Charities which you can help out by choosing them as your beneficiary when registering.

In addition to supporting a local charity, you will receive a medal, quarter Zip running top, and race bib by post before the event weekend. You must register at least two weeks pre-event to receive ahead of the event. Anyone that registers after this time will still receive the pack, but it may be after the event.

You can run, walk, or crawl.

It is important to remember that social distancing rules must apply.

There is also the opportunity for you to raise additional money for Cliona’s Foundation and be part of Cliona’s Blue Crew for the event by:

  • Making an additional donation on the registration form.
  • Setting up a fundraiser on your Facebook page.

Phil Deegan, Fundraising Manager of Cliona’s said, “We are delighted to be one of the nominated charities for what has always been a great event. It may be somewhat different this year but that gives greater flexibility to everyone who wishes to take part. It would be fantastic if people could select Cliona’s to be their registration fee beneficial as a lot of our fundraising events were cancelled this year and we have an increased flow of requests for support from parents of seriously ill children. So in addition to completing a challenge, people can also make a real difference to other people’s lives.”
