Published

on

CoderDojo Limerick is hosting a free technology fun day on Oct 10, from 10am to 4pm, in the Limerick Institute of technology for young people aged 7 to 17. The event will be attended by Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan TD and Sean Kelly MEP.

CoderDojo is a global network of kids’ computer clubs that was founded in Cork in July 2011. Across the world, there are 760 dojos in 56 countries where volunteers give up their time to help kids learn how to make computer games, websites and apps for FREE. The third ever dojo, CoderDojo Limerick was founded in Limerick Institute of Technology in September 2011 and has gone on to thrive with up to 150 youth attendees at our weekly Saturday morning sessions in LIT.

To celebrate both the Startup Gathering and EU CodeWeek, the Coderdojo Limerick team have decided to organise a special event called “MegaDojo”. This is a FREE event for kids and teens aged 7 to 17. The event will bring together young people from across the Midwest and beyond for a day of technology based fun. The event aims to get kids excited about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) in a fun way.

The event will run from 10am to 4pm. Tickets available hereThe elements of the event include:

Showcase

We’ve got a number of fun activities for the kids that will immerse them in technology such as 3D

Printing, Drone Flying, Virtual Reality. The aim of this section is for the kids to get a hands on experience with technology. International Technology companies and Local Startups will have stands showcasing what they do and shown new technology to inspire the next generation.

Inspirational talks

We’ve invited a number of people to come and give talks on the day about some really interesting topics such as Games Development, the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence.

Youth Hackaton

One of the elements of the event is a special hackathon. Working in small teams, the participants will be given a problem on the morning of the event. Over the next few hours they will have to work together to come up with a solution to that problem and present their idea to a panel of judges.
