The JP McManus Scholarship Awards celebrated the academic achievements of 24 Coláiste Mhichíl students for 2023, 2024, and 2025

Coláiste Mhichíl students were honoured at a special evening in the Adare Manor, recognising the academic achievements of 24 students through the JP McManus Scholarship Awards.
The event awarded 24 students from the Limerick City school, announcing the 2023, 2024 and 2025 winners of the J.P. McManus Scholarship Awards.
It is now almost thirty years since the scholarship fund was established, when JP McManus provided a capital sum for the purpose of funding the provision of third-level education scholarships for students completing the full Leaving Certificate cycle at Coláiste Mhichíl CBS, Sexton Street, Limerick.
Eight scholarships are awarded each year at the rate of €6,750 per year for the full term of the undergraduate programme chosen by the awardees, to date, 233 scholarships have been awarded and 31 are active at present.
The scholarship winners have a proven ability to succeed, 176 have graduated to date, and many are now pursuing successful careers in Ireland and in many locations throughout the world, including California, Australia, South Korea, Norway and the United Kingdom.

Mr McManus was happy to celebrate the scholars’ success on the evening, saying, “It is my great pleasure to welcome you all this evening to Adare Manor. We are here to celebrate the achievements of the scholarship recipients of 2023, 2024 and 2025 and to congratulate them on their success.”
He added, “The scholars of 2023 and 2024 are already progressing at pace through their third level education and have long outgrown their school uniform. This year’s cohort, however, are just commencing their journey. They all, however, have good reason to reflect on a job well done.
“The occasion is a special cause of celebration for parents, guardians and families. Their time and support you have given to the scholarship recipients have been instrumental in their achievements. It is a proud occasion for you all.”
The event saw special guests attend the ceremony, including Minister Patrick O’Donovan as well as former student Dr James Ryan, who Mr McManus said “is a man who has achieved much in his medical career and has been so closely associated with Limerick’s hurling success over the last decade”.
The event also paid tribute to the late Eddie Fallon, one of the founding Trustees who passed away on March 30, 2024. With Mr McManus saying, “I want to acknowledge the passing in March 2024 of Eddie Fallon, my former teacher and a Scholarship Trustee and indeed, a man who was instrumental in the setting up of the scholarships, a person for whom I had the utmost respect.”

The JP McManus Scholarship Scheme is now administered by three Trustees, Noel Earle, Pat Hartigan and Gerard Boland, and all are committed to meeting the objectives set by JP on the establishment of the Scholarship Fund. The Trustees congratulated all of the 2023, 2024 and 2025 Scholarship winners, saying they “convey our best wishes to them for continuing success in their third-level education and future careers”.
Mr McManus closed out his praise for the scholarships, saying, “In conclusion, on behalf of Noreen, myself and our family, I wish all our scholarship recipients good health, happiness and achievement in the future and to all present, have a wonderful evening of relaxation and celebration.”
