They celebrated by holding numerous activities which demonstrated the many positives of further education
College Awareness Week 2022 promotes the benefits of a post-secondary education for all, supports students to become “college ready”, and showcases local role models and runs all over the country from November 21-27. College Awareness Week is a national campaign which aims to promote the benefits of going to college, to help students of all ages to become college-ready, and to showcase local role models.
College of FET, LCFE Mulgrave Street Campus celebrated College Awareness Week 2022 by holding numerous activities which demonstrated the many positives of further education. Events were based around the themes of: Progression and Career Options, FET The Smart Choice, The FET Journey and The Learner Experience.
Cliff Parrott of Magpie 6 Media attended the opening day of the awareness week and gave a talk about his career to the students. Magpie 6 Media produces animated, live action, online and literary media. Cliff is an award-winning Irish animator who has worked in the animation industry since 1999 on many TV series, features, and commercials in Los Angeles and Dublin. He has worked for illustrious studios such as Disney, Cartoon Network, and Comedy Central. He created/produced animated shorts for Adam Sandler and Damon Wayans.
The College was delighted to launch its’ new and innovative FET Taster Series. This series is designed to give second level students insight into the value, relevance, and excitement of Further Education and Training programmes at LCFE Mulgrave Street campus in Limerick. The series is geared towards Senior Cycle students and we were delighted to host a number of local secondary school groups throughout the week.
Other key events which took place throughout the week included visits to local secondary schools, CAO Information Sessions, UCC and UL talks regarding progression routes to Higher Education, Past learner role model podcasts, Industry presentations on career options, and numerous activities organised by our Student Union and College Learning Hub to highlight the learner experience.
Cliona O’Kelly Deputy Principal said, “We are delighted to be part of a nationwide campaign promoting the importance of post-secondary education. There are lots of options out there and College Awareness Week encourages people of all ages to consider further education as part of their future.”
