Common Purpose launched its 100 Leaders project in the Mid-West region with an event in Mary Immaculate College on Wednesday January 20. Tying in with the launch was the annual Graduate Connect Event and over 45 graduates, contributors and supporters of programmes old and new were in attendance. The aim of the event was to connect, develop and inspire this growing network of leaders, and encourage them to affect change in the region.

The keynote speaker on the evening was Mr. Tim O’Connor, former Secretary General to the President, who said, “It is a pleasure to speak with such a diverse and engaged group of leaders from the Limerick region. Limerick is on the march, I’m very excited about its future and you are playing a critical role in all of that. I am thrilled to see the great work that Common Purpose is doing here and I wish them and the organisations involved continued success.”

Present on the evening were leaders from the organisations engaged on the ‘100 Leaders’ project, including partners Northern Trust, Limerick City & County Council, Action Point, Mary Immaculate College and Local Enterprise Office, Limerick. The other partners involved in the project are the University of Limerick, the Department of Revenue, The Cregg Group and the Department of Social Protection; and all were acknowledged and thanked on the night. These organisations supported Common Purpose in setting up the programme and are continuing their involvement by sending 8 participants each over the 2 year duration of the project.  The group shared and discussed ideas for change that they would like to contribute to in the region.

The ‘100 Leaders’ project has run 2 programmes in Limerick in 2015 and the next programme starts in May 2016. The aim of the project is to engage and develop the leadership abilities of over 100 emerging leaders from the various sectors whilst building a new, diverse and vibrant network in the area. In noting the success of the programme, CEO of Common Purpose Ireland, Jackie Butler said, It is wonderful to have Graduates, Partners, contributors and supporters of the Common Purpose programmes here tonight. Our ‘100 Leaders’ project is such a special one for us and we are delighted to engage with emerging leaders across the sectors and to build a new and vibrant network in this great region”.
