Over €300,000 available for groups and organisations from the Community Activities Fund
Applications are now being accepted from eligible groups and organisations across Limerick for grants from the Community Activities Fund.
The Community Activities Fund will support groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas, with their running costs such as utility or insurance bills, as well as with improvements to their facilities.
Groups will also be able to use the funding to carry out necessary repairs and to purchase equipment such as tables and chairs, tools and signage, laptops and printers, lawnmowers, canopies and training equipment.
A total of €9 million has been made available by the Department of Rural and Community Development to support community groups impacted by Covid-19.

The allocation for Limerick is €305,884.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of projects that could receive funding under the programme:
- Development/renovation of community centres
- Community amenities
- Development of youth clubs or facilities
- Development of sports/ recreation facilities
- Improvements to town parks and common areas and spaces
- Public realm improvements
- Streetscaping
- Development of play/ recreation spaces
- Energy efficiency type projects
- Purchase of equipment
- Adaptations or equipment needed as a result of Covid-19
- Maintenance of premises
- Utility bills (electricity costs, refuse charges, heating charges)
- Operating costs (e.g. existing rental/ lease costs, insurance bills)
- Website maintenance
- Cleaning
- Audit and accountancy fees
Launching the fund Minister Heather Humphreys said: “This funding is about giving a helping hand to our local groups and clubs, which have continued to serve their community during COVID-19.”
“These grants may be small in nature, but they help thousands of community organisations, clubs, men’s and women’s sheds, youth centres and parish halls. I would encourage all interested groups to get in touch with their Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) that administers the programme in their area.”
“Supporting local communities to shape their future is a key focus of the Government’s new rural development policy, Our Rural Future.”
Closing date for receipt of applications is 12 noon on Friday 28 January 2022.
