The Community Mothers Programme, established in Limerick in 1993, is a universal home visiting service offered to families with new babies and young children in Limerick city and county.

A Community Mother is an experienced mother who is trained to visit families in their homes and to encourage parents to enjoy and participate more fully in their child’s life.

The service provides one to one support and information regarding child development, local services and supports. It also offers individual parent support, helps with babies’ routines, facilitates parent/baby/toddler groups, Incredible Years Parent Programmes, provides weaning classes, baby massage classes & child reflexology classes.

The Community Mothers are now pleased to announce the official launch of their new manual which will be used as an extra tool on their home visits to families.

The new Community Mothers Manual was launched in Limerick Social Service Centre Henry St. on Monday, June 12th.   It provides information to be shared with the families being visited e.g. communicating with your baby and babies’ development stages as well as parent self- care. The manual will work very well with the ‘Caring for your baby and Caring for your child books’ which are given to all new parents by their Public Health Nurses. It is hoped that the parents being visited will be encouraged to use these books more by the Community Mothers.

Guests included local community and family support groups and some of the families using this wonderful service. Also in attendance were representatives from the Nenagh and Clonmel Community Mothers programmes along with a representative from the National College of Ireland ABC 0-2yrs programme.

Community Mothers is a partner of Parenting Limerick which is a network of organisations that provides parenting and family support in Limerick City. It works together to provide parents with the information and support that they need so that they are the best parents they can be. The old saying rings true – happy parents make happy children.
