Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, welcomed the funding announcement, saying, “This funding is a powerful recognition of the generosity and openness shown by communities across Limerick. Projects like the new sensory playspace on Garryowen Road and the community playground at St. Patrick’s Boys School will create inclusive, welcoming spaces for all.

“I want to thank Minister Calleary and his Department for this support, and most importantly, the people of Limerick who have opened their hearts and homes to those seeking safety and a new start.”

Dr. Pat Daly, Director General of Limerick City and County Council, said, “This total of €1.4 million investment enables us to work with communities to deliver meaningful, lasting improvements to local amenities and infrastructure. It’s a worthy recognition of the resilience and inclusivity of our communities. 14 projects are already underway and we look forward to continuing to work with local groups to ensure these amenities reflect the needs and aspirations of all residents.”

The Community Recognition Fund is administered by the Department of Rural and Community Development and is designed to support capital projects that benefit the wider community, particularly in areas that have hosted significant numbers of Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection and International Protection Applicants.
