Almost 3,000 participate in Cook Medical Women’s Mini Marathon 2018

2,800 runners, joggers and walkers participated in the Cook Medical Women’s Mini Marathon 2018 on Sunday 30 September raising thousands of euro for local and national charities and causes. This year’s race saw an increase of participants in 2017 when 2,400 women took part in the event.

Participants completed either a 5k or a 10k circuit. Both races started and finished on the grounds of the University of Limerick at the UL Sports Arena.

The 10k race saw Michelle Finn finish in first place with a time of 35 minutes 2 seconds, followed by Lauren Dermody in second and Carol Finn in third. 

The event created an exciting atmosphere on Sunday morning, with hundreds of families and friends cheering on participants along the course.

Commenting on the day, Angela Moloney, Director of Finance at Cook Medical said:

“It was heart-warming to see so many women participating in an event that encourages general fitness and well-being. Now in its 20th year, the Cook Medical Women’s Mini Marathon 2018 raises much-needed funds for worthy local and national causes. The annual event is firmly established as the leading women’s running event in Limerick and the Mid-West.

Moloney continued: “2018 marks Cook Medical’s third year as sponsors of the Limerick Women’s Mini Marathon and we are delighted to extend our sponsorship of the event for a further three years, until 2021.

“During this sponsorship, we have forged strong partnerships with the race organisers and participants and we look forward to building on the success of this event in the years ahead.”

Also speaking at the event, Race Director John Cleary said, “We are delighted to see the increased numbers of women turning out today to participate in the Cook Medical Women’s Mini Marathon. The mini marathon is a great opportunity for women to boost their physical and mental health, as well as providing support to very worthy local and national charities and causes.”
