Copsewood Gaels RFC have recently set up an Instagram account to document the running of their beloved rugby club based in Pallaskenry, serving the Communities West of Limerick, from Mungret to Askeaton and all along the way.

Copsewood Gaels RFC are a Family Friendly Rugby Club based in Pallaskenry, serving the Communities West of Limerick, including, Mungret, Clarina, Patrickswell, Kildimo, Adare, Kilcornan, Askeaton, Ballysteen & Pallaskenry.

They cater from Minis to U12 but are hoping to field more teams, including adults teams in the future.

Founded in 2010, they realised they realised the areas between Pallaskenry, Askeaton and Adare did not have a rugby team to call its own and they decided it was time to set up their own rugby team.

From the first day, 30 mini players registered and now every year they are geeting more young rugby players joining Copsewood with a passion for the game.

Eamon Ward, one of the founders of Copsewood Gael RFC when speaking about founding the club said:

“Some of us had played in our younger years and we felt there was a lot of kids going into town to the bigger clubs, the likes of Shannon, Young Munster and Garryowen. The city is only 15 minutes away from us but we wanted to do something local.

“We are fundraising very hard to buy a bit of land of our own, which we envisage we will have in about another two years’ time. We hope to purchase three or four acres and we’ll develop it then.

Eamon believes that some day their club members will be soon wearing the Munster jersey.

“Our hope is that in a very short time you might see one of our graduates making it into the Munster academy and lining out for Munster. We think that is not too far away. I’d say in the next five years we’ll see someone lining out in the Munster jersey and that will be a very proud day for our club.

“Players move on to a bigger club. We always wish them well, but we always ask them not to forget where you started and don’t forget us when you are playing for Munster and playing for Ireland.”
