BNest supports the development of County Limerick Youth Theatre

County Limerick Youth Theatre (CoLYT) is a non-profit community enterprise that was founded in 1996. CoLYT is an ensemble for young people who are interested in drama, theatre and related activities.

The County Limerick Youth Theatre is a member of YTI – Youth Theatre Ireland. YTI deliver year-round programmes of drama workshops and performance opportunities to young people aged 12 – 21 from cities, towns and villages across Ireland and are committed to youth-centred drama practice. Fiona Quinn, County Limerick Youth Theatre Artistic Director said that their “work is transformative,” as it gives young people, “a safe place to find their individual voices.” Fiona recognises the massive pressure on young people to conform; instead, the youth theatre empowers and supports young people.

CoLYT organises European Projects and Programmes for the young people of rural Ireland. Fiona said that they take these programmes abroad and, “put together activities to learn, teach and show how people from different backgrounds can live together”. Some examples of these programmes include tackling LGBTQ issues.

County Limerick Youth Theatre is taking part in the BNest incubator programme, the first dedicated Social Enterprise Incubator Programme in Ireland, which caters to all types of organisations from non-profits to community enterprises to businesses with a social conscience. BNest offers a six-month peer programme at no cost to participating organisations and is dedicated to helping businesses that want to make a social impact.

Fiona said that they got involved with BNest because “we needed to create a robust and sustainable way of creating a positive social impact on the community and BNest provide a great way of doing so and also help to improve our connectivity.”

Kasia Zabinka of BNest said, “BNest extends a friendly welcome to the BNest Showcase 2019 on Tuesday, March 12 from 3.30pm to 5.30pm at the Nexus Innovation Centre, Tierney Building, University of Limerick. All are welcome.”
