The Creative Show 2018 presents Return to Storyland on Thursday, March 15 & Friday, March 16 at the Lime Tree Theatre at 8 pm. This is a variety and family-friendly project directed by Myles Breen with movement pieces choreographed by Angie Smalis.

Donal Sherlock, Manager of Daughters of Charity Service, TEES says they wanted to “design a project that would enable people to pursue their individual life goals, create opportunities for social inclusion and provide opportunities for young people to develop their talent in the performing arts.”

This is the eight year and it has been so successful and grown so big that the name The Creative Show is used to encompass all the different participating groups as performing the piece are Limerick Youth Theatre, The Daughters of Charity service users and features Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ & Ardscoil Rís choirs, Music Generation, Limerick and Lumen Street Theatre.

This collaboration continues to involve Limerick Youth Theatre members, service users, choir, dancers and musicians who rehearse together over the course of three months, culminating in over hundred fifty participants performing at The Lime Tree Theatre.

Where do stories go when they are not being told? They Return to Storyland. Here, all your favourite characters hang out on a small island. Obviously, things are not always happily ever after here. Judge Judy is called in to sort out some legal issues and the dwarves are complaining about how they work all day to get no pay.  But there are fun times too. All your favourite princesses are having a girls’ night out while the princes are working out in the gym. There is romance as well; you’ll never guess who is going on First Dates! A clue ‘…bibbity bobbity boo’. And we bring you the secrets behind the mysterious death of a giant, the main suspects are Jack, his mother, and a goose, but don’t worry – C.S.I. Story Land is on the case. We hope you enjoy Return to Storyland and in the end that we all live happily ever after!

Angie Smalis, Artistic Director of LYT says; ‘The Creative Show 2018 has become the highlight of LYT’s yearly programming. I am privileged to be able to co-produce this innovative project and be part of the creative process by designing some of its elements, such as the movement pieces. It is a hands-on process and we all learn from each other. The professional team have not only been focusing on creating and presenting their work but have been extremely generous with sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources. Return to Storyland is a yearly reminder of why we all got involved in the performing arts in the first place, challenges and teaches us to be patient, understanding, inclusive and respectful of people’s abilities and needs.’

Mr Sherlock added; “the success of the Creative Show is a wonderful endorsement for all involved and further reinforces the team resolve and commitment to the project. From the show’s inception, it was our aim to provide through the performing arts, a platform that would support and develop each individual. Highlighting each person’s unique talents, The Creative Show has achieved this in abundance.”

He continues by saying “During the last eight years, our creative family has grown and enjoys the inclusion of Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ; Lumen Street Theatre, Ardscoil Rís and Music Generation. The commitment from all involved has definitely enhanced the project and has further provided a creative family of support that encourages acceptance, tolerance, play, humour, and laughter for all who participate. It is a wonderful experience to witness the positive changes of each individual, their enhanced quality of life and the lifelong friendships that they develop. The Creative Show is much more than a performance; it is an opportunity to belong.”
