By I Love Limerick correspondent Peter Cooney

Creeves Celtic FC are trying to raise funds for a new mower in order to keep their pitch and grounds in the best possible condition. However as a result of Covid 19, they are unable to engage in their usual fundraising initiatives.

The club, located in Newbridge, Co. Limerick, is a small club nestled amongst several parishes. The club has a Junior Mens and Ladies team, as well as Underage Schoolgirls/boys teams. A vital recreational lifeline for many local parishes, the club needs help during these hard times.

While they know everyone is struggling right now, they hope that the local community and beyond can give whatever they can to help keep this club in the best running order for when life returns to normal.

They are situated behind The Thatch Bar in Newbridge, which was established over 200 years ago and considered the oldest pub in Limerick. The club was formed in 1978 offering plenty to the community of Newbridge, which is located just outside Askeaton.

Askeaton in itself has a strong swimming history and a state of the art leisure centre and pool which was opened in the town in 2008. There is also a new children’s playground located in the green in the town. The town has a significant industrial sector with multinational companies Pfizer and RUSAL Aughinish located nearby.

Nearby attractions of Askeaton include the Askeaton Pool and Leisure Centre, the Franciscan Friary and the Castle, and guided tours, the nature trail with a bird hide and butterfly sanctuary at Aughinish Island, Curraghchase Forest Park, the Stonehall Visitor Farm, Rigneys Farm Shop, Kilcornan Outdoor Karting and the Flying Boat Museum located in Foynes.

A representative of the club said, “Creeves Celtic FC is a small club nestled amongst several parishes. We have a Junior Mens and Ladies team, as well as Underage Schoolgirls/boys teams. We need your help. The club is trying to raise funds for a new mower in order to keep our pitch and grounds in the best possible condition. Due to Covid 19, we are unable to engage in our usual fundraising initiatives. We appreciate that there are worthy causes out there, but if you could donate at all to help our cause, we would be most grateful.”
