Culture Night is brought to you by the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht in partnership with Local Authority Arts Offices, and cultural organisations throughout the island of Ireland.

“It is people that give cities the creativity and dynamism that makes them centres of learning, technical and cultural development, and research and innovation. This dynamism is never more evident than on Culture Night, commented Sheila Deegan, Limerick Arts and Culture Officer,Limerick 2020 Bid Team.

“Museums, galleries, artists’ studios, theatres, towers, heritage centres,  and other venues throughout the city and county will host a wide and varied array of cultural events for all of us to engage, re engage with and most of all celebrate and enjoy,” she added.

Ms. Deegan said after Limerick’s designation as the first National City of Culture, Limerick has shown how culture is a key factor in creating a confidence within Limerick as a place and within ourselves by celebrating artists, designers and innovators.

“The Cultural Revolution that began in Limerick in 2014 is continuing with great confidence and belief. Culture Night provides an annual creative platform for artists and creative spaces to share with you their passion and belief in the power of culture by showcasing Limerick as a rich and rewarding locus of culture” she stated.

The European Capitals of Culture (ECoC) is one of the longest-running and best-known EU initiatives, and as we bid for the designation for 2020 we are asking for your support. The Park Kiosk in Pery Square will be a hub for the bid team who will be asking the public to sign up as a cultural ambassador for the bid.

“The strength of our bid will be determined by how citizens believe in the power of culture,” commented Ms. Deegan.

Heritage is again one of central themes of Culture Night Limerick with a range of events taking place throughout the city and county including:
