Culture Night Limerick 2020 goes digital

Culture Night Limerick 2020 will take place this year on Friday 18 September, and artists and cultural organisations across the city and county have been planning their events and activities for the Limerick region!

Limerick Culture & Arts Office is delighted to be able to present a programme of events, taking place both live and digitally for young and old to enjoy.

Culture Night is always great fun and offers the perfect opportunity for us as a region to showcase the wealth of culture that Limerick has to offer. It is a night to celebrate the cultural, artistic and creative communities of our city and county by inviting existing and new audiences into our galleries, museums, workshops and studios.

In light of the Covid-19 outbreak and the resulting restrictions, some changes had to be made to Culture Night Limerick 2020, as a result, they will have a programme that is a mixture of both live and digital events. This year’s Culture Night Limerick 2020 will be smaller in scale with a hybrid programme of digital and physical events.

At the centre of the programme are two new and exciting digital commissions.

Fidget Feet in association with King John’s Castle are filming across the city this week for their digital aerial film project ‘Limerick: Undreamed’.

Theirs is the story of finding oneself or finding that there is more to oneself than first imagined. It takes as its premise that a city and its people are not separate, that one shapes the other to the extent that it would be hard to say where the people of the city end and the city begins

EVA is also making new digital work for Culture Night, a three-part spoken word performance, to camera, by MuRli, God Knows, Hazey Haze and others – performed at each of EVA’s key venues (Limerick City Gallery of Art, Hunt Museum, The Sailor’s Home).

The performance will be released on Culture Night to officially launch the thirty-ninth EVA International Edition.

Other events planned for the night include:

· Digital tour of Limerick Museum

· Screening and workshop for young filmmakers from Fresh Film

· Live music from Emma Langford as she launches her new Album Sowing Acorns

· Digital exhibition from South & Proud in association with The Gaff from Tait House

· Behind the scenes look at St Johns Brass & Reed Band

· Online workshop on how to track your home energy usage from +City Xchange.

Dance Limerick will present one of only a few live events with a performance of Bloodlines by John Scott at their space in Johns Square, seating is strictly limited and tickets for this can be booked through Dance Limerick directly and this performance will also be presented online on the night.

Pippa Little, Culture and Arts Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “Never has it been more important for an event like Culture Night to take place. It presents the opportunity for our creative community to work in partnership to nurture the cultural life of our region and support our audiences as they adjust to a new social and cultural environment within their communities. Culture Night 2020 will represent the best of those collaborations between our artists and cultural institutions in Limerick.”
