Limerick band, Currents release their debut single ‘Back in Time’, marking a huge step in the band’s journey

Young Limerick musicians, Currents, have released ‘Back in Time’, a melodically haunting debut single showing why they are ones to watch in the music scene.
The release marks a huge step in the band’s journey as they have made a name for themselves performing locally and gaining more followers with every performance.
‘Back in Time’ brings the band’s lo-fi indie pop sound to streaming platforms, the melodic guitar holding many traits of ‘bedroom pop’ with crackling distortion paired with the sombre vocals, making the song an easy listen, driving the story of a broken-down relationship.
The band is also a triumph of local music education, having formed as part of Music Generation Limerick, the Currents have come a long way in close to a year since their formation.

The six-piece group features Bess Walsh and Bebhinn Ryan on lead vocals, with Bess also on keys and Bebhinn playing acoustic guitar; the pair’s vocals and harmonising lean to the indie-pop sound effortlessly.
The singers are joined by Liam Hunka on cello and saxophone, Stephen Purcell on lead guitar, CJ Young on bass, and Reece Buckley on drums.
‘Back in Time’ is now available to stream on Spotify, and if the debut release is a sign of what else is to come, the local music scene has another exciting act to look forward to.
