Cyclists across Limerick are invited to take part in the 2026 Cycle for Axel, putting a focus on community, sport, and the memory of rugby legend and family man, Anthony Foley, coming up to the ten-year anniversary of his passing.
Almost ten years ago, the rugby world lost a legend when Anthony Foley, a celebrated Irish Rugby player and coach, died suddenly in Paris. In his memory, his sister Orla Foley embarked on a series of charity cycles to honour his legacy and support causes close to their hearts through Orla’s Wild Ways.
Now, partnering with Limerick Cycling Club, Cycle for Axel will begin and finish at Thomond Park on April 25, with participants taking on a scenic loop route via Sixmilebridge and Killaloe before returning to the city with an option of a 64km route or a 100km route.

Speaking about the fundraiser, Orla said, “ Please come and join us. It’s going to be amazing. It’s a day where you can cycle with us: Rob Henderson, David Wallace, Niall Woods, and many, many more amazing people like you.”
The event also includes lunch during the cycle, a two-course meal afterwards, and a match ticket to the Munster v Ulster Interpro Derby, making it a full-day experience for those taking part.
The fundraiser has already raised more than €100,000, with proceeds going towards three charities. Orla said, “Come on out, have a lovely celebration of my brother’s life whilst raising money for three amazing charities, CRY Ireland, Midwestern Cancer Foundation, and the IRFU Charitable Trust.”
Organisers say the event is about more than just cycling, saying, “This isn’t just a cycle. It’s a day out. A shared mission. A moving tribute. Powered by community, backed by incredible partners, and driven by heart. Part of Munster’s sustainable future, one spin at a time.”
