Dance Limerick opens its autumn season with the premiere of Racket, dance artist Magdalena Hylak’s newest piece.

During her time as Associate Artist at Dance Limerick in 2026, Magdalena has continued her exploration of the relationship between movement and sound, with residency periods both in Dance Limerick and more recently in Dance Cork Firkin Crane.

After a series of solos and duets in recent years, Racket is Magdalena’s first ensemble piece. She will be joined by longtime collaborator and composer Lionel Kasparian, dramaturg Eva Martinez, and an international cast of dancers including Isabella Oberländer, Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín, and Ashley Chen.

The performance continues this exploration, with particular emphasis on the spaces that emerge between bodies. Moving beyond familiar frameworks this new ensemble work opens up a new field of interaction.

Magdalena Hylak is a dance artist based in Ireland. She has been developing her own body of work since 2021, in which she questions the notion of performance. At the core of her research is movement and sound outside of the question of style/genre or technique. She has been the Galway Dance Artist in Residence since 2023. She is Dance Limerick’s Compass Associate Artist for 2026.

Performances take place on Friday 11 at 7.30 pm and Saturday 12 September at 2 pm at Dance Limerick Performance Space.
