Dance Limerick celebrates one year of Creating a Climate for Change project with a series of special events from November 21 to 23

Dance Limerick’s Creating a Climate for Change in Limerick project will host a series of special free events to celebrate its year-long journey of climate research and community engagement.
The project, developed by Dance Limerick in association with local participants, artists, and researchers, uses the power of movement, drawing, and audio stories to promote behavioural change, just sustainability transitions, and climate literacy through easy-access creative media.
The year-end events, taking place at Dance Limerick and the Limerick City Gallery of Art have an Irish Sign Language Interpreter and venues have wheelchair access.
Katy Hewson, Project lead and DL.Bridge Artist at Dance Limerick believes the project has been a “way to find new relationships with our natural environments” and create a shift in perspectives.
Katy said, “We have discovered that movement is a vehicle for connection and a safe container for meaningful conversations and climate action discussions. It has been a way to find new relationships with our natural environments, change perspectives and levels of care and understanding. We look forward to sharing the project’s learnings in three different formats of events. You can decide if you’d like a sensory experience with a small group on Thursday, a presentation and Q&A session on Friday or on Saturday morning you can experience a celebration event with the family.”
Events begin on Thursday, November 21, with A Sensory Journey through Movement, Drawing & Audio Stories at Dance Limerick, an immersive, relaxed performance tailored for adults with additional needs and those who enjoys a sensory-friendly experience with a small audience.
This interactive journey invites attendees through John’s Square and Dance Limerick’s performance space St. John’s Church, engaging with the project’s themes of climate action and community through movement, drawing, and audio storytelling.
On Friday, November 22, the team hosts an engaging presentation at Limerick City Gallery of Art, where they will share insights and reflections gathered throughout the year.

Attendees will also enjoy a display of artworks by visual artist Mike O’Brien, whose drawings document key moments from through the year from workshops and residencies across communities in Limerick City with Dance Limerick, Moyross with Moyross Community Hub, and Croom with Croom Family Resource Centre. The presentation will offer an opportunity for audiences to hear from key researchers, learn about the project’s impact and join in a Q&A.
The events culminate on Saturday, November 23, with Creating a Climate Gathering: Movement, Drawing, Audio Stories & Conversations at Dance Limerick. This gathering celebrates the collaboration and creativity of all involved in the project, inviting participants, artists, and the Limerick community to come together for movement, discussion, and sensory exploration.
Through these events, Creating a Climate for Change in Limerick invites the public to reflect on the ways in which art can inspire change, build connections, and foster a deeper understanding of climate issues.
All events are free, registration required through the Dance Limerick website.
