Dance Limerick announce family-friendly evening for Culture Night 2025
Dance Limerick to bring a family-friendly dance evening of performances, taster sessions and a collective celebration for Culture Night 2025
Dance Limerick has announced a family-friendly dance evening involving performances, taster sessions and a collective celebration of international dance and music for Culture Night 2025 on September 19.
The evening’s events will include three ten-minute performances from dance artists with and without disabilities, sharing a selection of work developed throughout 2025 as part of the group’s Inclusive Dance Artist Training from 6 to 6.30 pm as a “Watch & Experience” event.
From 6.30 to 8.15 pm, attendees are invited to take part in taster sessions where there will be three 30-minute dance classes from a variety of professional dance teachers and styles. Suitable for beginners and people with no dance experience.

From 8.15 – 10.30 pm Dance Limerick aims to “Engage”, bringing Top 8 and The Yankari Afrobeat Collective. The evening will finish with Hip Hop and Break Dance performances from Top 8 and a late night dance party dance with live music from Dublin’s Yankari Afrobeat Collective an energetic sound reminiscent of the Afrobeat greats of the 60s and 70s
Through Dance Limerick’s Inclusive Dance Artist Training in partnership with Limerick Arts Office, Limerick City and County Council, dancer Jimmy Murphy has been collaborating with Harpist Aisling Lyons with support from Angie Smalis to create a new short dance performance.
Culture Night will be Jimmy’s second public performance of the work which he has created. He describes the piece as a “warm collaboration between 3 artists, music, lights and space.” His hope is to bring the audience to the point of “feeling the darkness of thunder and the lightness of blue sky”.
Collaborator Aisling Lyons, reflects on the creative process, “working on this dance and harp piece with Jimmy has been an absolute joy. It was both enriching and inspiring to explore a new composition through improvisation, guided by Jimmy’s cues and storytelling.
“Creating a work that unfolds without much discussion —allowing the narrative to emerge through movement and music alone—was a new and rewarding experience for me. I’m grateful to have been part of such a beautiful project.”
