Dancehall, created by Emma Martin and Andrew Hamilton – performed by Luail company dancers with live-music from Crash Ensemble – will complete its six venue nationwide tour at Lime Tree Theatre on November 1st.

Inspired by Ireland’s Public Dance Halls Act, this exhilarating work revels in the humanity of the dancehall, a space where freedom, resistance and individuality unapologetically meet in messy, sweaty, chaotic joy.

Speaking about the work, Emma Martin said, “Going back to this show 10 years later, has been a very refreshing experience. There was a certain austerity in this piece first time around, conceptually, so having the opportunity to reimagine and open it up more now, really digging into the idea of a dancehall –  a space where humans surrender to each other – has brought a sense of lightness and ease. I’m enjoying the honesty and simplicity of that. This time it feels more about people and less about an idea.”

Artistic Director of Luail, Liz Roche, said,” We are so pleased to present Emma and Andrew’s work to audiences across Ireland this Autumn. One of Luail’s core ambitions as Ireland’s National Dance Company has been to honour and invest in the existing canon of Irish dance. Reviving Dancehall marks a significant step in that journey, offering audiences the opportunity to reconnect with Emma Martin’s celebrated work, created in collaboration with Andrew Hamilton and Crash Ensemble.”

Tickets are available now on the Lime Tree Theatre website.
