Dance Limerick and Luail gather Dancehall Memories this October 23
Dancehall Memory Gathering at Dance Limerick this October 23, hosted by Luail. Drawn from the shadows of Ireland’s Public Dance Halls Act, this exhilarating work revels in the powerful simplicity and raw humanity of the dancehall, a space where freedom, resistance and individuality unapologetically meet in messy, sweaty, chaotic joy.
Dancehall Memory Gathering at Dance Limerick this October 23, hosted by Luail – Ireland’s National Dance Company
This October 23 from 7-9 pm, Luail – Ireland’s National Dance Company is hosting a free, memory-sharing event at the Dance Limerick studio, ahead of its performance of Dancehall, by Emma Martin and Andrew Hamilton, performed by Crash Ensemble at Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick.
The group asks, “Do you have a story from the dancehalls? Or a story shared by a parent or a grandparent?”
Luail and Dance Limerick want to hear about Limerick’s true love stories, saying, “Tell us about the love stories, the arguments, the drama, the fashion, the showbands. We want to hear all about it!”
For those who come along, you will have the opportunity to have your story recorded and shared with you after the event.
The evening will begin with some gentle movement, followed by tea, coffee and conversation. Attendees will also be provided with discounted tickets to Dancehall at Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick

Presented by Luail – Ireland’s National Dance Company, this 10 year old work by Emma Martin with music composed by Andrew Hamilton performed by Crash Ensemble with Luail’s company dancers, Dancehall is an unrestrained tribute to what it means to be alive—together, egos smashed up, in the moment.
