Day by Day Support Services, an online organisation providing mental health support for those in crisis are currently recruiting volunteers to work as administrators for the service. Those who wish to apply must have a background in health and social care, a certain level of mental health experience and an ASIST qualification. You must be over 21 years of age to volunteer for this service. The services will provide training for this role also.

Brian O’ Sullivan, CEO of Day by Day Support Services spoke about the benefits of volunteering for the organisation. “You can deliver the service from your own home from your laptop. We ask that you volunteer between 2 and 4 hours a week. If we have more volunteers we can provide a service to the best capacity that we can”. The support offered by Day by Day Support Services is not advice, therapy or counselling and it is not intended to replace any of the above. They offer instant on-line support to a person who may be experiencing something in their life which they may be finding difficult to cope with. The Day by Day Support Services is a stepping stone for the individual until they are ready to reach out and have the necessary provisions for professional help and support put into place.Day by Day Support Services – Ó Lá Go Lá is a Not for Profit online peer support organisation based in Ireland which was set up in 2013 to provide supervised support to help reduce Suicide, Depression and other Stress Related Illness to service users, who need emotional support and encouragement.

Their team of volunteer administrators have a variety of mental health qualifications/ training which include Psychotherapy, Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, Social Care, Youth Studies, Life & Business Coaching, Counselling & Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). The head office of the organisation is in Limerick however they provide support to people on an International basis.

There is a Peer to Peer support platform which is facilitated and monitored through the social networking site Facebook. It is facilitated by trained Admins. They invite their service users to come and support each other through discussion, topics and open forums. The services have 214, 000 followers on Facebook, many of whom avail of this support platform.

Mr O’ Sullivan said about the peer support platform “It’s a safe environment because it is moderated by administrators. These administrators come from a health and social care background, they need to have mental health experience to deliver that service. It is a recovery focused service”.

 The Day by Day Support Services also have a non-crisis support is offered through a confidential email support service. Service users of the non-crisis email service are offered confidential, emotional support and encouragement and often signposted to other relevant organisations/supports best suited to each individual needs and location. Emails are answered within 48-72 hours.

Crisis support is available through an instant chat messaging service for individuals who deem themselves to be in crisis. This is a one to one confidential support service with one of the administrators.  This service can be accessed internationally by logging on to the Day by Day support services website.
