SZ0A2705-EditIrish Chamber Orchestra Death and the Maiden at UCH (University Concert Hall) is coming to  in 2016. The Irish Chamber Orchestra’s Spring Seasons kicks off with a performance with Hungarian maestro,  Gábor Tákacs Nagy who has worked with the Orchestra over many years, latterly as Principal Artistic Partner.  “I have conducted the Irish Chamber Orchestra many times in the last few years and it is always a refreshing experience for me. Their love of what they are doing always gives a heart-lifting and electrifying concert-experience. They are a diamond in the cultural life of Ireland “ says Tákacs-Nagy.

He conducts the Irish Chamber Orchestra in Death & the Maiden  featuring delights by Pergolesi, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert sung by vivacious soprano, Ailish Tynan. Mullingar born, Ailish is one of the most colourful and entertaining sopranos.  She trained at Trinity College, the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Guildhall, London and was a Vilar Young Artist (Royal Opera House Covent Garden), a BBC New Generation Artist and was a recipient of the Rosenblatt Recital Prize at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World.

Pergolesi’s exquisitely emotive Salve Regina, is both expressive and poignant. Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ underscores the force of the close of Christ’s life as the Earthquake heralds the Resurrection. Schubert’s Salve Regina progresses from veiled grief to genuine tragedy and contrasts with his electrifying Death and the Maiden which demonstrates his natural instinct for melody and song.   Mozart’s Kommet her ihr frechen Suender is a gem from his oratorio La Betulia liberata.

Don’t miss Death and The Maiden on Thursday 11 February at University Concert Hall, Limerick.
