Declan Hannon was honoured by Adare GAA Club with a special event paying tribute to the Limerick Senior Hurling captain who announced his retirement in 2025

Declan Hannon received a touching tribute from Adare GAA, as the club paid tribute to the hurler’s inter-county hurling career with a special evening at the Woodlands House Hotel.
The ex-Limerick Senior Hurling Captain announced his retirement from inter-county hurling in October 2025, and was joined by both his Limerick and Adare teammates, management, and people who have helped him on his journey for the special occasion.
The evening saw people share memories and reflect on his incredible career, which saw him become Limerick’s most-decorated senior hurling captain of all time.
During his 15-year career, Declan won six Munster Senior Hurling Championships, as well as five Senior Hurling All-Ireland medals, including a period wich saw him lift the Liam McCarthy Cup four times in a row.
Following the event, Adare GAA Club said, ” What a night celebrating Declan Hannon and his unprecedented success as Limerick hurling captain. It was wonderful to hear so many funny and poignant stories for a great person and hurling career.
“It really does take a village, and we would like to sincerely thank the many people who supported this special occasion. Thanks to the Fitzgerald Family and everyone at the Woodlands Hotel, TJ Ryan for doing a fantastic job as MC, all the speakers who kept us thoroughly entertained, and Kevin McCarthy who provided the music afterwards. A truly wonderful night that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.”
