DELL EMC employees to host Project Management Training for Charity Sector
On Monday, January 22, Dell EMC announced it plans to host a project management training session for the charity sector on Saturday, February 17, from 10 am – 4 pm at Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick.
The programme called the ‘Dell Volunteer Project Management’ (DVPM) is an exciting initiative which sees Dell EMC project management experts volunteer their time to educate national charity representatives in the fundamentals of project management through immersive training and discussion. The hope is that these charity’s projects will see an improved success, with the help of the DELL EMC employees.
Dell EMC launched the programme in Limerick in 2012, having developed it in collaboration with the PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF). Over the past five years, training has been delivered to over 100 organisations and 25 events have been hosted. In 2017, the programme was shortlisted in the Project Management for Social Good category at The Ireland Chapter of Project Management Institute (PMI) inaugural National Project Awards. In 2014, the programme won the Community Advancement Through Project Management Award at the Project Management Institute (PMI) annual Global Project Management Awards.
At the recent Limerick session held before Christmas, five charities attended including representatives from ADAPT Domestic Abuse, Limerick Civic Trust, Samaritans, Limerick Mental Health Association and MyMind Centre for Mental Wellbeing. Each participating charity brought one real-world project proposal with them. During the day they were shown how project management tools and techniques, approved by the Project Management Institute, could help them achieve their objectives.
Speaking about the programme, Vice President, Global Parts Operations and Limerick Site Leader at Dell EMC, Timmy O’ Dwyer, said: “Dell EMC is committed to leaving a legacy of good both for our customers and for our partners in the communities where we are based. We’ve been running Dell Volunteer Project Management in Limerick for over five years now and every time we hold a session we hear the same question – ‘when is the next one?’.”
“Many of the groups have attended more than one session and have developed valuable project management skills that have helped them to increase productivity for the organisation they work for. We are delighted to be able to share our project management skills with as many organisations as possible. The demand for training has been so strong we’re excited to be holding the first of our 2018 courses in February. Our ambition is to hold four for the Mid-West region in the coming year. We hope the sector continue to take advantage of the sessions and ultimately develop new skills having attended.”
