Limerick You’re a Lady – A celebration of the songs of the Limerick-born legendary singer/songwriter Denis Allen at the Lime Tree Theatre

Join with the people of Limerick in celebrating one of our favourite sons, the legendary Denis Allen, creator of our much-loved anthem Limerick Your’re a Lady  in the Lime Tree Theatre on Thursday 20th February 2025.

Denis’s very special guests for this celebratory concert will be some of Limerick’s talented singers and performers along with his friends who worked with Denis on his musical endeavours such as Louise Morrissey, Denis Carey, Denis Ryan (of Ryan’s Fancy), Emma Langford and Shaun O’Dowd with M.C. Lorcan Murray of Lyric fm.

 Denis, a very proud Limerick man, wrote the classic Limerick You’re a Lady back in 1979,  where it topped the Irish Charts for five weeks and remained there during the next 12 months.

Throughout the 46 years since the conception of this endearing song, it has been sung passionately and emotionally by proud people of Limerick both at home and abroad at every gathering, from weddings to Hurling finals, and every sporting endeavour.

This very special song captured the pride that Limerick people have of their city and county and has been recorded hundreds of times by artists as diverse as Joe Dolan, Daniel O’Donnell, Suzanne Murphy, Frank Patterson, The Moscow Red Square Male Choir and a Danish version even topped the charts in Denmark.  

A truly remarkable achievement and certainly places Denis at the very top of the Irish songwriter echelon.  His songs are evocative and beautifully delivered with storytelling of the finest order, with classics such as Lonely in London, Late Starters in Love, Shannon River, Killarney in my Dreams and of course Limerick You’re a Lady.

This concert in the Lime Tree Theatre will be a very well-deserved tribute and heartfelt thanks to our very own prolific songwriter Denis Allen.  This is sure to be evening that will live long in the memory.
