A Pallasgreen man has set up a GoFundMe appeal following the recent cancer diagnosis of his wife Diane Howe. Diane Howe was diagnosed with an aggressive form of small cell lung cancer on her birthday, January 5. The disease was discovered accidentally during a scan of the freelance artist’s abdomen. 

Husband John established the online fundraiser as the shock diagnosis has caused the couple significant financial strain. A caretaker, John must now look after Diane on a full-time basis. The pair is struggling to make ends meet and fund travel expenses associated with Diane’s cancer care. 

The mother-of-three receives regular and intensive chemotherapy 40 kilometres from home. “We are not the type of people that ask for help. We are usually the ones people come to for help,” says husband John. “To find ourselves in a position that, A, requires so much medical intervention and, B, may cause us to lose our home is terrifying.”

The well-liked couple hopes to raise €13,100 – enough to keep them in their home and on the road to Diane’s frequent medical appointments. “Cancer is a disease that not only affects the patient but those around the patient too. So many changes have to happen in so many peoples lives to accommodate the recovery of that patient,” explains John. “Large or small, any donation will be welcome, and your support will mean more to us than you will ever know.”
