Dolans Pub and Restaurant on the Dock Road is the first winner of the Limerick City Tidy Towns in its new bi-monthly format

One of the city’s most well-known and long-established venues, Dolans Pub and Restaurant receives the Limerick City Tidy Towns award following the work put into the exterior of the venue in the latter half of 2022.

Maura O’Neill of Limerick City Tidy Towns said the group “couldn’t be happier” to present the award to the venue situated on the Dock Road.

She said, “This year, we are changing our awards format slightly by giving bi-monthly rather than monthly awards, so we will be even more selective about our winners, choosing only six per year.

“We therefore couldn’t be happier to present our first bi-monthly award to one of Limerick’s best-known and long-established venues, renowned for its traditional pub ambience and great food, as well as live music and comedy gigs featuring world-famous artists.”

The Limerick City Tidy Towns representative said the venue is on “many a bucket list” for Limerick City visitors.

“Our volunteers are often stopped by tourists during our evening pick-ups asking for directions to Dolans, as it is clearly on many bucket lists for visitors to Limerick,” she said.

“At the latter part of last year, the exterior of the building was given a huge overhaul with extensive repair and paint work and new lighting and exterior floral displays which now makes it an impressive go-to location on the outside as well as for what’s inside, which is so important given its prominent location on the Dock Road, one of the main routes in and out of city”.

Dolans is an award-winning traditional Irish pub, with live Irish Music sessions every night.   They have a restaurant and three live music venues (The Warehouse, Upstairs at Dolans and the Kasbah Social Club), and they cater for groups of all shapes and sizes in their purpose-built venues.    Since it was first opened in 1994 by Mick and Valerie Dolan, a small quayside pub on the outskirts of Limerick city has been transformed into a key music institution recognised nationally and internationally.

Dolans is Limerick City Tidy Town’s first winner of 2023 and will be in with a chance to be their Overall Winner for 2023 at next year’s annual event.  Their online poll to select the overall winner for 2022 has recently closed and the winner will be announced at their awards event to take place in March.

If you wish to nominate a business in the city for an award or indeed to volunteer with Limerick City Tidy Towns, they meet every Sunday morning at 11 am at the corner of Thomas Street and O’Connell Street, and on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm outside the White House during summer months.
