Doras is calling for supporters to take on Galtymore Mountain on Saturday, May 16, as part of its ‘Hike for Rights‘ fundraiser.

The guided climb will bring participants to what is the highest point in both Limerick and Tipperary, as the organisation who work to support and promote the rights of all migrants in Ireland hopes to raise funds.

Standing at 919 metres, Galtymore offers a scenic but challenging 12km route where hikers will trek for six hours beginning at Cush Carpark (Galtymore North), Co. Tipperary, requiring a good level of fitness and hiking boots are essential.

Mary Cantwell and her 14-year-old son, Daniel, took on the Carrauntoohil challenge and raised €2,000, with Mary saying, “As we ascended the mountain, each step became a symbol of the struggles many migrants face, steep, exhausting, but driven by hope. For us the climb wasn’t just physical; it was a journey of the soul, reminding us that strength is found in unity and perseverance.”

She added, “I loved this fundraising experience and am very grateful to Doras for making this happen.  Everyone should try it at least once in a lifetime.”

Doras supporter, Wayne Malone, took on the Mount Batton challenge and said, “Fundraising for this challenge was quite rewarding, and we were blown away by the support throughout the campaign. We managed to raise €1,187. We are very grateful to everyone who supported us, as well as to Doras for their great work in seeking and ensuring migrants’ rights.”

Funds raised will support immigration advice and direct services, advocacy for fair policies, support for victims of hate crime and exploitation, and initiatives empowering refugee communities to thrive.
