Limerick is set to become the stage for a musical collaboration led by Dr Fiana Ní Chonaill, who has brought together professional harp players, Gráinne Fitzgibbon and Nora Casey from Limerick, to co-create new music for the harp.
As part of this project, The New Connections Harp Collective has been specially formed to perform the newly composed works, making their debut on Sunday, 19 October 2025, at Friars’ Gate Theatre, Sarsfield Street, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick (V35 VY92).
This unique collective brings together both professional and amateur players, featuring talented young performers, from Limerick, Kerry, Galway, Roscommon, Tipperary, Waterford, and Cork.
Speaking about the project, Dr Fiana Ní Chonaill said: “This project is about building community through creativity—bringing harp players together to share their skills and be part of creating something new. I am excited to share this journey with the audience on the 19th of October.”
Under the guidance of Dr Fiana Ní Chonaill and her team, participants have had the opportunity to learn from one another, exchange skills, and explore their creative potential in a supportive, collaborative environment.

The initiative is supported by Limerick City and County Council and Limerick Arts Office through the Dolores O’Riordan Music Bursary, as well as by Music Generation Limerick County and Cruít Éireann | Harp Ireland.
On the night, Ahalin National School will give a special performance, invited as a result of their engagement with Music Generation Limerick County national school’s programme.
The Friars’ Gate Theatre performance promises to be a celebration of tradition, innovation, and collaboration, shining a spotlight on Ireland’s most iconic instrument as part of Harp Day 2025.
